Section 1: Iraq Embassy London Legalization UK

When you travel to another country, you need to submit various legalised documents, not just for a visa but also to work or conduct business overseas. In the UK, document legalisation is the largest transactional service of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). Each year, the FCO legalises nearly 500,000 documents.

Legalization, also known as attestation confirms that the seal, signature or stamp on the documents are authentic. In 1961, following the Hague Convention, the need of document legalisation for overseas use was replaced with an apostille certificate that verifies the authenticity of documents for use in member countries of the Hague Convention.

However, Iraq is not a member of the Hague Convention. If a UK national is travelling to Iraq, the required documents would need a further step in the legalisation process – attestation by the Iraq embassy in London.
